Donuts!

I made donuts all by myself! Well, Maycie helped as much as she could. I never realized how hard it was making these! My parents have the entire system down that works flawlessly every year. Year after year, dozen after dozen they have served up delicious donuts for everyone around. Their system is perfect! My mom mixes the dough which I have helped with many many times and my dad fries and glazes. Everything in between mixing and frying is up for grabs. Its kind of like a free for all when it comes to helping. Something I should have thought of before I decided to bring on this donut challenge... I've never actually fried the donuts! This was my first year and I did it all on my own! They turned out AMAZING! It was pretty hectic and I made a COMPLETE mess out of my entire living room/kitchen but we were able to deliver donuts to the neighbors before trick or treating.

I don't have any cookie sheets nor do I have the room to let the donuts spread out and raise. I had to roll them out on the table, cut them, put them on a sheet of tin foil, place that on the seats around the table and cover them with a sheet. It was the most nerve wracking hour waiting for those to raise. I had four kids in the house and I just stood in front of the table swatting hands and keeping kids from climbing on top of them.

This was my first batch to be fried. I thought I would need two pans to get them all done but one pan was all I could handle. As you can see the first batch was a little too dark. I was going crazy frying, cooling, frying, glazing, cooling, glazing, frying, cooling, glazing, cooling, sorting. Yes, CRAZY! It was almost a workout!

Like I said, Maycie did help... but she kept glazing the raw donuts!

I can't wait to try making these again at Christmas time. Hopefully Bret will be here and we'll get a system down! No matter what, the neighbors all liked the donuts and have been asking for more! Score!
