- It takes in rural Williston.
- It is a K-12 district but after 6th grade (or 8th depending on which school they attend) students go to middle school and onto high school which is in Williston School District.
- Garden Valley is the largest school with 183 students K-8. It is 9 miles north of Williston.
- Stony Creek is in the middle, with 95 students K-6. It is 4 miles east of Williston.
- Round Prairie (Haylees school) is the smallest. It has 68 students K-6 and it is 16 miles west of Williston.
- With a total of 350 kids it is a pretty small district. Just to put it into perspective, Davis school district which is the district I grew up in. It is the district where both my parents and older brother teach... it has nearly 68,500 students!
I love being in a small school district! The district is able to have a more hands on approach than larger districts. They have a dinner planned once a month; we've had everything from a bbq at the park to a full Thanksgiving dinner. This month instead of a dinner they threw a Christmas Party. Since there are only three elementary schools and Round Prairie is the newest, most of the gatherings have been held there. The Christmas party was held last Saturday at another elementary school, Stony Creek. Bret was on days off and for the first time he was able to join us. We live west of Williston and Stony Creek is east, it took us 30 minutes to get there! They had 7 stations set up in the different buildings. Cookies and hot cocoa, cake walk, bag decorating, ornament making, card making, thumbprint poems and bingo.
Stony Creek is made up of 8 buildings.
This cute little school house building is now the technology center but it was once used as a one room classroom for K-6. It was a creaky, smelly old building but it was fun to check it out.
This building is their cafeteria, library and faculty offices.
Can you imagine having this as your school cafeteria?? It reminds me of all the scout camp kitchens I've been in (Especially Evergreen!) I don't know any of the people in the picture below, I just wanted to show how big small the kitchen is.
This was the cookie decorating station! Hot cocoa was on the kitchen counter.
The cake walk made me laugh, the girls had no clue what to do. They walked around this rug while the music played. When the music ended that was their sign to jump in the orange circle in the middle... but the girls just kept walking around and around! Since there were not many people there, we did most of the activities alone. Needless to say, both girls won a round of Cake Walk.
Isn't their library small?!
Here we decorated bags so we could carry all our treasures.
They made two kinds of ornaments, foam mittens and these scratch off snowflakes. I'll admit it, these snowflakes were AWESOME! I want a huge sheet of paper that you scratch off to reveal random colors!
Bingo was a huge hit! I think we're going to have to start playing bingo at home. The girls loved it!
I love spending time as a family! We've needed a Christmas activity to get us in holiday spirit!
